Thinking About Gathering Online
A short reflection on the online church and what it means to gather
For the past year or so, our church, The Table, has met mainly online. It is simply the model that works best for our community at this time. However, rather than embracing the positives of how we are currently doing church, I have found myself, more often than not, speaking apologetically whenever talking to people about meeting over Zoom. As someone who sees community as central to what it means to be the church — I mean, we named ourselves the Table — I felt that a Zoom meeting was somehow less legitimate.

About a month ago, I read a paper published by the Lausanne Movement entitled Being Church in a Digital Age. I was encouraged and convicted at the same time.
