Formed by Corinthians More than Romans

This is the first in a series of posts looking at the influence 1 & 2 Corinthians have had on my formation as a Jesus follower.

Over the past few months, I have been reading through the New Testament as part of my daily Bible reading. Recently, I found myself in 1 and 2 Corinthians, and it hit me how formative those two books have been for me.

As a college student and for my first ten years of ministry, I was part of a university fellowship that took a passage from Second Corinthians 5 as its mission statement.

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

2 Corinthians 5:20.

Although I’m no longer part of that organisation, that passage is still at the heart of how I see and understand who I am and what I do. In fact, my final message at the Ithaca Vineyard was from this text. It genuinely sits at the centre of how I understand ministry and what it means to be a follower of Jesus.
